The national flag of France drapeau national de la France is a tricolour featuring three vertical bands coloured blue hoist sidewhite, and red. The design was adopted after the French Revolutionwhose revolutionaries were influenced by the horizontally striped red-white-blue flag of the Netherlands. Article 2 of the French constitution of states that "the national emblem is the tricolour flag, blue, white, red". It was stored in Saint-Denis abbey, where it was taken when war broke out.
